Giving Your Etsy Shop a Boost in 2025: What is Working For Me So Far

If your shop has been struggling, give some of these strategies a try and see if they make a difference. You never know what small change might be the one that turns things around.

If your Etsy shop has experienced a decline in views and sales lately, you are not alone. Many sellers go through periods where traffic slows down, and it can be frustrating trying to figure out what is going wrong. I recently made a few changes to my shop, and something seems to be working. Orders and views have been gradually picking up. I cannot say for sure which tweaks made the difference, but here is what I have done differently. If you are looking for ways to improve your Etsy shop's performance, these tips might be worth trying.

1. Update Your Shop Policies

According to Etsy, having clear shop policies can help your store appear in search results. If you have not set up your shop policies yet, now is the time to do it. Policies like cancellation, refund, and privacy details help build trust with customers and give your shop a more professional look. Etsy provides templates that you can use, so if writing your own policies sounds like too much work, you can simply use those. If you sell digital products, Etsy already has a default policy stating that digital items are non refundable.

2. Optimise Tags and Attributes

Etsy's algorithm favours tags that are multiple words long and reflect real search queries. Instead of using single word tags like "mug," "cute," or "cats," try more specific, long tail keyword tags such as "cute mugs," "mugs for cat lovers," or "cute cat mugs." Think about what potential buyers might type into the search bar. You can also check your Etsy stats to see which search terms are leading customers to your shop. If you notice a pattern, incorporate those keywords into your tags.

3. Revamp Your Product Titles

Your product titles should follow a similar strategy as your tags. Use natural sounding, keyword rich phrases that potential buyers might search for. Important keywords should be placed at the beginning of the title, and you should use as much of the character limit as possible. Instead of simply naming your product "Cute Cat Mug," try something more descriptive like "Cute Mug for Cat Lovers | Kitchen Accessories, Coffee, Tea, and Cat Fans." This not only helps with Etsy SEO but also provides more context for shoppers at a glance.

4. Strengthen Your Product Descriptions

Your product descriptions should include strong keywords, especially in the first few sentences. Etsy's algorithm scans descriptions for relevant keywords, so it is beneficial to naturally incorporate them early on. Also, consider your target audience. Who is your product for? Make it clear in the description. For example, I sell wall art mockups, so I might use something like: "Perfect for artists and creatives, this wall art mockup is ideal for Etsy sellers looking to showcase their artwork in a professional and stylish setting."

5. Adjust Your Ad Strategy

Not all sellers use ads, but if you do, consider revisiting your approach. I increased my Etsy ad spend slightly, but I also shifted my focus away from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads and put more budget into Pinterest ads. Pinterest has proven to drive more traffic to my shop compared to Instagram, making it a more effective platform for promoting my products. If you have not tried Pinterest ads yet, it might be worth testing them out.

Final Thoughts

Every Etsy shop is different, and what works for one seller might not work for another. However, making small changes like updating your shop policies, optimising tags and descriptions, and tweaking your ad strategy can all contribute to improved visibility and sales. If your shop has been struggling, give some of these strategies a try and see if they make a difference.
