Barely Trying is a hand drawn display font with tall irregular letterforms, loose proportions and an intentionally under-polished finish. The slightly wobbly shapes and uneven construction give it the feeling of lettering drawn quickly by hand, which is exactly where its personality comes from.
The character set uses an all caps handmade style, with letterforms that vary in shape, height and construction throughout. That inconsistency is intentional, giving the font a relaxed, expressive quality rather than the uniform appearance of a traditional typeface.
Made for graphic designers, illustrators, artists, poster makers, branding designers, small businesses and Etsy sellers looking for typography that feels casual, contemporary and noticeably handmade.
Barely Trying works especially well with personality driven branding, playful editorial layouts, imperfect typography trends and designs where something overly polished would feel completely wrong.

Fonts by Emma Rodriguez Studio are made to have personality. Expect naive shapes, wonky details, playful imperfections and type that doesn’t take itself too seriously. They’re not designed for clean, minimal branding. They’re for bold, quirky, maximalist projects that need something a little stranger, sillier and more expressive.
